Quick action by the community yesterday saved the life of a Luwingu man who wanted to commit suicide.

Vincent Lugobo was rescued from death by his father, Peter Chishimba, who cut the rope that the victim had wanted usedl in his attempt to commit suicide.

Confirming the development to ZANIS in an interview, Mr Chishimba, who is the father of the victim said he resued his son from committing suicide after a domestic dispute.

Facts of the matter are that Lugobo, who is a Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) commander from Bulambo Village in Chief Tungati, attempted to  commit suicide after his parents refused him to divorce his wife.

It is alleged that Lugobo  wanted to divorce his wife so that he could marry another woman of the same locality.

Mr Chishimba said he objected to the request of his son, saying it was wrong for a person with Christian values to engage in such acts.

The advice from his parents did not sit well, and he instead rushed out and hanged himself under a tree situated near his home but was rescued after his father cut off the rope using an axe.

“The passersby heard a strange voice and rushed to check what was happening just to find him struggling for his life.

” He called for help, and we helped to cut the rope, and he dropped on the ground and was taken to the hospital as he complained of a neck injury,”  Mr. Chishimba disclosed.

He said the victim was rushed to the nearby Bulambo Health Post for treatment adding that he was happy that his son is safe and sound.

He explained that this is a lesson to young ones who sometimes think in such a manner of threatening to kill themselves when they are not happy with something.

And speaking at his hospital bed, Vincent advised people not to attempt suicide as it is painful adding that he will never repeat the heinias acts again.
