Kanyanga Ward in Kaumbwe Constituency of Petauke District in Eastern Province, has moulded 23,000 bricks under the cash for work program.
The moulding of bricks will help in the completion of pending projects, such as Matonje Clinic, which is still under construction, Kanyanga and Nyakwalala health post.
Twenty-seven people from Nyakwalala village in Chieftainess Mwanjawanthu’s area moulded the bricks under the cash for work program.
The bricks were moulded in a space of 10 days, which would be used on identified projects in the ward.
The ward also had people working on the roads, making play packs for early childhood learners in government schools.
One hundred people were contracted to work on various projects within the ward.
The District has 13 wards, with five wards in Kaumbwe Constituency and Petauke Central with Eight Wards.
Petauke District engaged 1,608 people with 703 being women and 905 were men, who participated in the August cash for work programme.
Among other projects were cleaning of drainages from Civic Centre along Nyampande road to Petauke Day Secondary School, digging of toilets and construction of school pupils assembly parades, unblocking drainages and culverts, among others.
The district was allocated K 1, 267,000.62 and the government extended the programme from six months to one year and would end in August next year.
