New equipment improves Livingstone general hospital’s diagnostic services

Livingstone General Hospital has seen improved diagnosis accuracy following the use of the recently commissioned state of the art laboratory equipment at the health facility.

Head of Molecular Biology section Kondwelani Zulu told ZANIS in an interview that the health facility is now able to conduct various respiratory investigations on the QuantStudio7 Flex platform.

Mr Zulu explained that the QuantStudio7 Flex platform has increased the spectrum of the health facility’s diagnosis.

“We are now able to check for 20 viruses, seven bacterial and fungal infections. We are also able to see the different types of coronas,” he said.

He disclosed that previously, the hospital would only manage general diagnostics such as checking for COVID-19 and Tuberculosis.

He also said the equipment is a positive development not only for Livingstone but the nation at large.

Meanwhile, Head of Clinical Care at the same  hospital Isaiah Hansingo disclosed that a state of the art Paediatric theatre will soon be commissioned as all the necessary equipment has been purchased and installed.

He said the Paediatric theatre will be commissioned in the next few days and that the installed equipment is suitably designed for children.

Dr Hansingo said the Paediatric theater equipment was provided by donors from KidsOR at over 500,000 Euros and an additional K450, 000.
