General Public urged to embrace their heritage this Independence Day

Government has urged the general public to embrace their heritage by attending this year’s independence celebration. 

Western Province Assistant Secretary Allan Simakando says this is because  independence day is a significant event  hence the need for every citizen to participate in the commemoration.

Mr Simakando, who is also the Mongu District Independence Organising Committee Chairperson, acknowledged that this year’s celebration was unique and very special in that the country is celebrating another milestone of 60 years of freedom .

The Assistant Secretary  was speaking during today’s independence preparation meeting held  at the Mongu council chamber. 

“This year’s commemoration is very special as the country is celebrating 60 year of Independence in the country,” he said. 

Mr Simakando  called on all institutions to support the programme in order to make the event colourful. 

He further appealed to the provincial health office to provide various health services on the independence day as many people are expected to attend the event. 

Meanwhile, Western Province Cultural Affairs Officer, Pumulo Simashela assured people that the independence commemoration will be spiced by entertainment from various artists and cultural groups such as Chizazo blazer, Mombocima as well as Likumbi Lya Mize cultural groups, among others.
