Freedom fighters in Kafue District have called for the preservation of the freedom Zambia has enjoyed in the last 60 years.
The freedom fighters stated that the Diamond Jubilee Independence Day Anniversary is a testament to the resilience that freedom fighters expressed 60 years ago when they liberated Zambia from colonial rule.
In an interview with ZANIS Valentine Mayaba, narrated that the freedom and peace that Zambia is enjoying which he said came at a huge cost, as many people lost their lives in the struggle for freedom.
“I’m happy to witness Zambia celebrate independence for the first year and it is now sixty years. This freedom came at a huge cost, a lot of pepole died just to get the peace.
He stated that all Zambians should always strive to preserve the peace and maintain the legacy of Zambia being the beacon of peace.
Meanwhile, Teaching Service Commissioner Ronald Hichibilo who graced the independence commemoration in Kafue said the Independence Day is a memorable occasion that reminds Zambians of the sacrifice made by gallant men and women to gain freedom from their colonial masters.
Mr Hichibilo stated that Zambia is owned by Zambians because of the courageousness of the forefathers, mothers, and youths who fought and shed blood for independence.
He said Zambians will also treasure and be grateful for the sacrifices that were made for Mother Zambia by those freedom fighters whose vision was a united, prosperous, free, and peaceful nation.
“To the nationalists, especially on this 60th Anniversary, I wish to say that we will always treasure and be grateful for the sacrifices that were made for Mother Zambia by those freedom fighters whose vision was a united, prosperous, free, and peaceful Nation,” Mr Hichibilo said.
Mr Hichibilo added that this year’s 60th-anniversary theme,’’ 60 years strong: honoring our heritage, embracing the future,’’ is re-echoing the befitting respect that Zambians continue to give to the nationalists and releasing the important heritage that Zambia carries without forgetting the future.

Mr Hichibilo further called for tolerance towards one another, regardless of ethnicity, political affiliation, ideology, religious and cultural inclinations, by embracing the spirit of patriotism that freedom fighters exposed to all Zambians in their mission for freedom.
