Mongu Municipal Council has commenced construction of access gravel roads at Kasima Bulk Market at cost of Two Hundred Thousand Kwacha in order to facilitate movement of goods and services as well as people to and from the market once it becomes operational.

The project comes shortly after rehabilitating Mawawa Gravel Road at a cost of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Kwacha where the council’s newly acquired Constituency Development Fund (CDF) earth moving equipment was used for the first time.

This is contained in a press statement released to ZANIS by Mongu Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Abigail Sitenge.

“Access roads are crucial for the success of any new market as they facilitate the movement of goods, people and services. Properly designed access roads help to manage traffic flow, prevent congestion within the market area”, Ms Sitenge noted.

She disclosed that the construction of Kasima bulk market has reached 98 percent completion with few works such as electricity and water connections remaining to be done.

Ms Sitenge stated that the market already has an ablution block which was constructed by Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company and only awaits to be connected with water in order for it to become operational.

She assured that once water and electricity connections are complete the local authority will open the bulk arkert for public use.

“The local authority will only open the bulk market for public use when the connection of water and electricity is done”, She confirmed.
