Japan donates to Zambia

The Government of Japan has donated 2 Million United  States Dollars to  Zambia to help address the hunger situation that has affected most households due to the drought that hit the country in the last farming season.

Japan has since handed over the Emergency Grant through the World Food Program (WFP).

ZANIS reports that during the Handing over ceremony held at the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) in Lusaka, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Takeuchi Kazuyuki said the donation renews the strong commitment to further development of bilateral relations.

Ambassador Kazuyuki said Japan will ensure that its support contributes to food and nutrition security in Zambia.

In receiving the donation DMMU Coordinator, Gabriel Pollen said the donation will alleviate food security faced by communities.

Dr Pollen added that the donation has come at a time when the country is experiencing drought which has threatened the food security and millions of households.

And WFP Country Director,  Ciccy Kabasuuga said the donation will enable WFP to scale up its drought response.

Miss Kabasuuga disclosed that the funds will be used to procure food stuff to assist families in Gwembe, Siavonga and Sinazongwe Districts of Southern Province.

She commended Japan for responding to the president’s appeal to the International Community earlier this year.
