President Hakainde Hichilema says government is working towards offering opportunities to all citizens across the country, including the differently abled.
Mr Hichilema commended the community of the Differently Abled Persons for working together in formulating objectives that thrive towards improving their livelihoods as a whole.
The President was speaking when he met representatives of various organisations for the Differently Abled Persons, at State House in Lusaka.
“Agreeing to come in one group is a good step forward. I am glad that you are here and being from across the country is a good thing,” he said.
Mr Hichilema notes that through such interactions, government is able to have a checklist of important issues with regards to the Differently Abled Persons in society.
He shared with the gathering that his administration has employed more differently abled people than any other administration.
“Let us continue working together to rebuild this economy,” he added.
And Minister of Community Development and Social Services Doreen Mwamba noted that the meeting between the President and representatives of the Differently Abled in Society is the first of its kind.
Meanwhile, in a communique delivered by Derrick Sinyangwe from the Zambia Federation of the Disabled (ZAFOD) on behalf of the Differently Abled, congratulated the President for crossing a three year milestone in office and steering the country through some of the most difficult socio-economic challenges.
The Communique sent a message of gratitude for the strides so far accomplished and recommendations of matters that concern the differently abled in society.
Among the accomplishments, Mr Sinyangwe said governments resolve to ensure that the differently abled easily access public buildings is a significant stride in opening access to government offices and services to the vast majority.
Mr Sinyangwe further said the appointment of the differently abled in key government positions is a demonstration of political will in the area of self-representation by the differently abled in society.
