Zambia to work closely with Germany to grow the economy

President Hakainde Hichilema says the Zambian government intends to work closely with Germany to grow the country’s economy.

The President says Zambia wants to partner with Germany in capital mobilisation, equity, and investment in critical minerals, technology and other joint ventures.


The Head of State was speaking this afternoon at State House when Germany Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Cem Ozdemir, paid a courtesy call on him.


He said Zambia desires to achieve more in building partnerships, investments and trade through working with Germany and other European countries.


“So, we invite Germany investors to look at Zambia closely and invest in this country. We also want to partner with you with regards to technology,” he added.


President Hichilema also stated that he is aware that Germany has advanced a lot in terms of technology adding that Zambia wants first class technology as German investors come into the country.


“Issues around value addition are important to us to deepen our economic growth, value addition as much as possible,” he added.


The President further encouraged the Germany government to promote joint ventures.


And Mr Ozdemir, who was accompanied by an 80 member delegation consisting of individuals from the private sector, civil society, research institutions and the media, praised Zambia for working towards maintaining the rule of law.


Mr Ozdemir is happy that Zambia wishes to join the Climate Compact with Africa.

“This commitment shows your country’s determination to contribute to growth and prosperity through international cooperation by reducing bureaucracy.

“Consistently combating corruption, shows your willingness of your government to further improve business and investment climate also for foreign investors,” he said.


The Minister also indicated that many German companies are interested in investing in Zambia adding that Germany believes in strong international partnerships and reliable agreements.


He also shared that the German government has promised Zambia funds totaling to 108 Million Euros, to support the drought response.


“We believe that international relations is about having joint solutions for all our challenges as we face the climate crisis the world over,” added Mr Ozdemir.
