Construction of Mushitala police post in Kamalamba ward at a cost of over K900, thousand has reached at roof level.
The police post is being constructed using the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and is expected to be complete by December 2024.
Solwezi Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Esther Chirwa has confirmed the development to ZANIS and stated that the project is within the stipulated completion schedule.
“The contract duration is five months, works started in July and expected completion is by December this year and I can say we are on course,” Ms. Chirwa said.

She said the construction of a similar structure in Kyafukuma at a cost of K999,833 is awaiting the awarding of the contract.
And Kamalamba ward councillor Loves Soneka says the construction of the police post will reduce the distance that people have to cover to report cases.
Mr Soneka said the presence of police nearby will reduce theft cases that are prone in the residential areas of Mushitala and Mukuba.
“We have a lot of junkies in the ward and also a lot of theft cases in Mushitala and Mukuba. We expect these to reduce with the coming of the police after we are done with the police post because there will be patrols,” he said.
Meanwhile, the local authority has extended the contract period for the construction of Chief Kapijimpanga’s palace by eight months.
Ms. Chirwa said the project which was expected to be complete by August 2024 will now be done by the end of April 2025.
Ms Chirwa said the project is currently 75 percent complete as the chief’s main house, meeting room and 2x 2 bedroomed houses are being plastered, adding that electrical works are also in progress.
“The contractor is doing plastering, wall finishes, plumbing and electrical works are in progress. So, we can say that work on that project is 75 percent,” she said.
The palace is being constructed at a cost of K4,354,183.76 by Teso works and Supply limited using the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
