Mwanachingwala and Hanjalika cotton farmers receive aid

Aliance Gineries has donated mealie meal to cotton farming households in Mwanachingwala and Hanjalika areas in Mazabuka District of Southern Province in order to help mitigate the hunger situation in the country.

The donation has been given to both old and new members of the company’s outgrower scheme.

The mealie meal was handed over to the recipients at Nziba Community School and Kabolongola Church in chief Mwanachingwala and chief Hanjalika areas respectively.

Aliance Gineries Operations Manager, John Tembo, says the company realises that farmers cannot afford to buy mealie meal to feed their families as a result of the poor yields in cotton last season.

“We are therefore giving mealie meal to farmers as a way of encouraging them to continue growing cotton with us. This is the second time we are giving out relief aid to the farmers,” he said.

The Organisation has given a 10kg bag of breakfast mealie to each farmer’s household.

Mazabuka District Commissioner, Oliver Mulomba, has thanked the Organisation for aiding the farmers in the two areas.

Mr Mulomba said the government is ready to welcome everyone who would want to help in a similar manner.

He affirmed that no one has died of hunger in the district because of the government’s hunger intervention programmes and aid from various stakeholders.
