The United Party for National Development (UPND) has adopted Nason Musonda, an engineer by profession, as its candidate for the upcoming Kawambwa Parliamentary By-Election.
The Party has also adopted Justin Ndongani to run as its candidate for the Lilondo Ward By-Election in Shangombo District of Western Province.
ZANIS reports that UPND Chairman for Elections Gary Nkombo disclosed this during a media briefing at the Party Secretariat in Lusaka.
Mr Nkombo has since thanked Wiza Sindaza, the Kawambwa Parliamentary seat contender for his commitment and contribution to the party.
He added that the party cannot campaign without Mr Sindaza, describing him as the cornerstone of the UPND in Kawambwa.
“Having gone through all the processes, we have been directed to adopt Mr Nason Musonda as the candidate who is going to be running with the flag of UNDP in the Kawambwa by-election.” Mr Nkombo announced.
Mr Nkombo further appealed to UPND members in Kawambwa not to allow division because of internal competition but rather embrace unity in order to win the Parliamentary seat.
Speaking at the same meeting, UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda described the adoption process as tedious.
He said this is because the party had formidable candidates competing for the adoption.
“We had two or three very strong candidates. Extremely strong to the extent that it made us sweat to arrive on who should be the final candidate.” Mr Imenda explained.
Meanwhile, Mr Musonda has thanked President Hakainde Hichilema and members in general for his adoption.
He has pledged to traverse Kawambwa in order to secure victory for the Party.
” I’ll now proceed to Kawambwa to prepare to file my nomination. I’ll not disappoint the party; I’ll work hard as the ground is already fertile,” Mr Musonda promised.
The Kawambwa Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the conviction of former lawmaker Nixon Chilanga.
