Infratel has donated 2000 trees towards the plant a tree challenge aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change.
Speaking during the Infratel tree planting ceremony held at Chalimbana University in Chongwe, Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, who was represented by her Deputy, Malungo Chisangano says that the donated trees will be planted at 200 facilities across the country.
Ms Mutti says that it is important to explore sustainable alternatives to dependence on charcoal for income, in order to ensure environmental conservation that is balanced with economic support for the communities.
“Lets not just plant trees today but continue planting throughout the year, nurturing each sapling as a symbol of resilience and hope,” said Ms Mutti.
And Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu, who was represented by the Director of Forestry Sitwala Wamunyima says that his ministry is putting in place measures across the country, in order to appreciate the benefits of sustainable forestry.
Mr Nzovu also said that there is a need for sustainable forestry management that protects the ecosystem in times faced by high rates of deforestation.
Meanwhile, Infratel Chief Executive Officer, Evans Silavwe described the tree planting, as embedding stewardship in young people, for a lifetime sustainability of natural resources.
Mr Silavwe added that Infratel is committed to fostering a sustainable environment that can support a thriving digital society.
