GOVT. COMMENDED FOR REVIEWING THE CURRENT EDUCATION CURRICULUM

EVELYN Siakweebwa, a young change maker under the Kafue Child Development Agency has commended government for reviewing the current education curriculum.

Speaking during the International Children’s Day commemoration in Kafue, Siakweebwa said children need subjects aligned with current trends in the global village.

She noted there is a need for children to be introduced to innovations that will foster self-sustaining ideas and self-employment.

“We appreciate the role of the government in reviewing the current curriculum. But we need more subjects to be aligned with current trends in the global village” she said.

The youth activist  has, however, called on the Government to address the challenges  children are facing citing the high pupil-desk ratio, high pupil-teacher ratio, and high book- pupil ratio which are compromising the quality of education.

“We are happy about the efforts that the government is making in uplifting our rights. However, the magnitude of the challenges in the education sector requires sustained and coordinated action”, Siakweebwa said.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Alex Mapushi has reaffirmed the Government’s Commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Children.

Mr. Mapushi said the government attaches great significance to the welfare of children by ensuring the safeguarding of their rights.

He stated that the commemoration of International Children’s Day is a testament to the government’s commitment to sit and listen to the challenges children go through how they would want them  to be addressed by the Government.

“This day is special to both the Children and the Government. The commemoration of International Children’s Day reaffirms the Government’s Commitment to address the challenges faced by the Children,” said Mr. Mapashi.

He further assured the Children that the revised educational curriculum would cater to the current needs of children.
