ONE DIES IN MWINILUNGA MOTORBIKE COLLISION

ONE person has died while two others are nursing serious injuries after two Bajaj unregistered motorbikes collided head on in Mwinilunga district of North-Western province.

District Commissioner Harrison Kamuna has confirmed the incident to ZANIS and identified the deceased as Jonathan Mpenzhi aged 48 of Mudyanyama compound. 

ZANIS reports that Mr Kamuna said the accident occurred on November 22, 2024 around 13:20 hours after the rider of one of the motorbikes identified as Bazeli Kambongi 15, of rentals compound in Mwinilunga district failed to keep to his lane eventually colliding with another motorbike rider coming from the opposite direction. 

“He failed to keep to his lane and went into the other lane and collided with another motorbike that was coming in the opposite direction resulting in the instant death of Jonathan Mpenzhi on the spot near Elido Shop,” Mr Kamuna said. 

He explained that due to the impact of the collision, the deceased sustained a deep cut on his forehead and died on the spot while his unregistered Bajaj motorbike was extensively damaged.

He said the second motorbike rider Bazeli Kambongi sustained fractured legs, left arm and a deep cut on his right eye while his palion identified as Felix Chiyengi 47, of Kaputu compound sustained bruises on his eyebrows and right cheek with his motorbike extensively damaged.

Mr Kamuna said the body of the deceased has since been deposited in Mwinilunga district hospital mortuary, while the two casualties have been admitted to the same hospital. 

Mwinilunga district has in the past one month recorded two deaths arising from motorbike collisions with several motorbike accidents being reported almost on a daily basis.
