CHIEFTAINESS CHIAWA LAUDS SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER

CHIEFTAINESS Chiawa of Kafue District says the social cash transfer has significantly transformed her subjects’ livelihoods.

The Chieftainess notes that most households in her chiefdom are benefiting from the social protection programmes that the government has rolled out in the area.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, when Kafue District Commissioner, Maurice Hikapulwe, paid a courtesy call on her, Chieftainess  Chiawa noted that despite the negative effects of the drought, no household has recorded extreme cases of hunger.

She further commended the government for increasing the number of beneficiaries on social protection programmes in the area.

“Social cash transfer is a recommendable development, most of the households in my area are benefiting in one way or another, and the negative impact of the drought is cushioned by the social protection scheme,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mr Hikapulwe has flagged off the Social Cash Transfer payment for September and October.

He notes that the government has released about K8.2 Million for the payment of 9,440 beneficiaries under the programme in Kafue.

Mr Hikapulwe urged the beneficiaries to use the money productively.

“Today we are here to pay you the September and October payments from the government, and I urge you all to use the money productively,” said Mr Hikapulwe.
