CHIPATA District Health Office targets to capture a total of 70,508 children under the 2024 Child Health Week campaign.
Chipata City Mayor George Mwanza has launched the second round of the 2024 Child Health Week campaign in Chipata district.
Mr. Mwanza says the event which is conducted twice every year provides an additional opportunity for the Ministry of Health and its cooperating partners to raise awareness and deliver services that are essential for the normal development, health and survival of children in Zambia.
The Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) reports that the Chipata City Mayor said this year’s second round child health week campaign is themed ‘Reaching All Children for a Healthy Population.’
Mr. Mwanza said the theme emphasises Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the universal and equitable provision of child health services to all communities across the country.
He said Zambia has recorded marked reduction in under five and infant mortality rates in the past three decades.
Mr. Mwanza said the Government will continue to prioritize interventions that consolidate the gains made towards achieving the global child health targets outlined in the Sustainable Development Goal Number three.
He said in order to safeguard the positive strides and continue on the road to improving child health and survival, there is need to continue addressing the public health challenges that account for the majority of preventable deaths recorded among children.
