THE United Party for National Development (UPND) Provincial Chairman for Muchinga Province has urged party members in Nakonde District to ensure those joining the party feel welcome.
Speaking in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Nakonde, Lovewell Nsofwa said the party is bigger to accommodate everyone.
Mr Nsofwa said the people who had joined the ruling party should be received well by everyone.
The Provincial Chairman further praised the leadership in the district for having contributed the highest votes for the President in the province, in the 2021 elections.
And Nakonde Constituency UPND Chairman Simon Simwanza thanked the new members for making the decision to join the ruling party.
Mr Simwanza noted that the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema has demonstrated good leadership of inclusiveness never seen before.
“President Hakainde Hichilema has really made wonders. He has exceeded our expectations,” Mr Simwanza said.
Representing the defectors, the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) Nakonde PF District Youth Secretary Moses Kaonga revealed that the massive development taking place in the district and country made him join the UPND.
“I have decided to leave my party PF and join the UPND party because we have seen the massive development that the current government has brought,” Mr Kaonga.
Mr Kaonga said that the recruitment taking place in various government departments is evident enough that President Hichilema has delivered.
He added that the increments in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is another sign of commitment by the Republican President to develop all the parts of the country.
Former Nakonde Constituency PF Treasurer Brian Chisha said that the PF is disorganized and that there is no coordination among party officials hence the need to join the working party in government.
Mr Chisha thanked the UPND party members for welcoming them to the ruling party.
He added that there was no need to pretend anymore because President Hichilema has done a lot in the just few years he has been in office.
“We have seen our children getting free education, so why should I keep opposing a government that is working hard,” Mr Chisha asked.
The two Patriotic Front (PF) district and constituency leaders ditched their party together with their supporters to join the ruling UPND.
