HEAVY rains and strong winds have left a trail of destruction in Chaanga Village of Sinadambwe Chiefdom, Siavonga District in Southern Province.
Mulimya Ward Councillor Sydney Simweemba says the incident happened following the storm that hit the area on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in 10 houses being destroyed.
Mr Simweemba expressed sadness to ZANIS over the destruction stating that among the houses blown off two have been completely destroyed leaving the families in the cold but with no injuries recorded.
The Civic leader has appealed to well-wishers to come to the aid of the affected families as the damage has left food items soaked.
Meanwhile, Siavonga District Commissioner Geoffrey Jakopo has expressed concern over the damages caused by the rains.
Mr Jakopo revealed to ZANIS that officers from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) will be sent to the area to check on the impact of the damage.
Mr Jakopo stated that the government is concerned with the wellbeing of its citizens hence its prompt action when eventualities of such nature occur.
“We will send DMMU officers to check on the impact of the damages , from the impact assessment, then from there the government will come on ,to do one or two things, we are so sorry over the damages caused by the first rains so far,” he said.
