NAMWALA Town Council has received over K9 million meant for payments in the cash for work programme.
Council Public Relations Officer Nchimunya Likubi explained in a Press statement to ZANIS that the received funds have been broken into categories.
Ms Likubi said the first funding that was received on August 21, 2024 was over K800 thousand while the second consignment had over K3 million and was received on October 11, 2024.
“The Second funding K3,623,378 was received on October 11 2024 and 3rd funding K4,557,619 was received on 8th November 2024,” outlined Ms Likubi.
She indicated that for the works to be completed over K3 million was paid out in the month of September to 6,068 beneficiaries.
ZANIS reports that the Cash for Work Programme was officially launched in September 2024 in Namwala district and has continued to provide financial support to local communities through public works projects across all the 16 wards of the Namwala Constituency.
Ms Likubi further revealed that the Council is in the process of certifying the works done in the month of October so as to pay out beneficiaries.
