POLICE URGE PUBLIC TO BE VIGILANT DURING FESTIVE SEASON

POLICE Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga has urged the public not to move around with large amounts of cash during the festive season.

Mr. Hamoonga says the police have taken note of new and emerging trends in criminal activities, stating that  they are ready to maintain peace and order in the country.

In an exclusive interview with ZANIS News, Mr. Hamoonga advised the public to make use of electronic or online payment systems available across the country.

“We also encourage the public to be alert and vigilant during the festive season, especially if they find themselves carrying large sums of money,” he said.

Mr. Hamoonga added that the police will intensify patrols and assured the public not to be apprehensive about the increased presence of police officers that are to be deployed in various areas.

He emphasized the need for a concerted effort from the public in the fight against crime, as it is not solely the duty of the police.

“We are fighting crime as the police on behalf of the public, so we need to cooperate and work together with them,” Mr. Hamoonga said.

He has since appealed to the public not to hesitate to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
