BUILDING OF MATERNITY ANNEX IN MWANDI CHEERS EXPECTANT MOTHERS

SOME pregnant women in Magumwi Ward of Mwandi District have expressed excitement over a maternity annex being constructed under Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which is now at 70 percent completion.

Speaking during a spot-on check on CDF projects by the Council in Magumwi Ward, an expectant mother Namata Simango, said she is looking forward to the opening of the modern maternity annex in the area.

Magumwi Rural Health Post In-Charge, Agrippa Chintu said the completion of the maternity annex will help the facility have enough space as currently both the post-natal and deliveries are conducted in the same room.

Mr Chintu added that on average the facility conducts about 15 deliveries monthly and the new maternity annex will help accommodate pregnant women who will be confident to give birth in a more conducive environment.

“As a facility we had received a donation of the maternity annex from WaterAid, however, the building is in bad shape and through the Constituency Development Fund, the government has come on board to provide the much needed maternity annex in Magumwi ward,” he said.

Mwandi Town Council Assistant Civil Engineer, Lucky Sinkala expressed happiness with the work done so far.

Mr Sinkala noted that the maternity annex project has been running for the past two months and will soon be ready for handover.
