E-learning broadening education in Zambia

Chipata District Commissioner Elidah Banda says E-learning is a powerful tool that supports education goals in  Zambia.

Ms Banda notes that the initiative is not only aimed at providing greater access to quality education, but  also designed to improve learning outcomes.

She expressed optimism that  learners across the country will through the technology  have access to curriculum aligned educational content to enable them to learn at their own pace and convenience.

The District Commissioner was speaking during the launch of the E-learning awareness campaign for Chipata district.

The platform will offer offline capabilities allowing students in rural areas to continue their learning without interruptions despite limited internet connectivity.

It is also designed to be culturally relevant and aligned with the country’s national curriculum adding that materials are readily available in local languages.

“ The E-learning passport initiative seeks to address the many educational challenges including increased access to learning materials, supporting remote and underserved areas and also provides relevant materials to learners,” She said.

She said in addition to  improved resources for learners, the learning passport also includes professional development tools for teachers designed to assist them to refine teaching strategies and integrate digital technologies into classrooms effectively.

“ The E-learning passport is not just a platform, it is a powerful tool that supports the broader education goals of our country including expanding access to quality education , improving literacy and numeracy rates and building a strong foundation for the future of Zambia,” She said.

And Assistant Director for Directorate of Open and Distance Education Inutu Kalumyana said government has also prioritised digital learning by developing it as policy under the ministry of education.

Ms Kalumyana said the aspect of digital learning should be embraced and exploited by teachers in order to improve the facilitation of lessons whenever learning is taking place.
