CHASEFU District Commissioner Jimmy Phiri says the various development projects taking place in the area will further strengthen government’s decentralisation programme.
Mr. Phiri says projects such as the construction of staff houses for civil servants, among others will foster better service delivery.
Speaking during his spot check tour of the project, Mr. Phiri further commended the opening up of roads leading to schools, building of toilets in schools and public places aimed at promoting proper hygiene practices among residents.
He assured of government’s continued support for the Cash for Work initiative stressing that it allows community members to contribute to their own development while earning an income.
“People can work for the development of the community while getting money to sustain their families. This financial assistance will enable families to afford basic necessities and enhance their overall quality of life,” he said.
The District Commissioner welcomed the initiative which he said will not only uplift living standards but also contribute to the enhancement of service delivery within the community.
And Magodi Ward Councilor Bornface Chavula remarked that the initiative has motivated local residents to become involved in developing and improving their communities.
Mr Chavula also called on beneficiaries of the programme to use their earnings wisely instead of indulging in negative vices that hinder progress.
“I urge everyone to be responsible with this money. Use it for your families and other positive ventures that will improve our livelihoods as a community,” he stated.
