BIBLE TO BE TRANSLATED TO 13 ZAMBIAN LANGUAGES

Bible and Literature Translation Association (BiLTA)  says that it is working with the Summer Institute of Linguistics to translate the bible to 13 Zambian local languages to enhance understanding by the local people.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, BiLTA Chairman, Ezekiel Ngulube says there is a need for the Zambian people to read the word of God in their mother tongue in order to bring growth to the church.

Rev.Ngulube added that the association will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to translate the bible to more languages should conditions remain favorable.

“Jesus said in Mathew 28 vs 19 go therefore and make disciples of all nations, he spoke of many different languages, which is very important,” said Rev Ngulube.

And Summer Institute of Linguistic (SIL) Associate Executive Director, Nelis Vandenburg said BiLTA will become a part of SIL in order to see to it that the work done in Zambia, is not only local but part of the global movement.

He added that the bible is a source of wisdom from God and Zambia being a Christian nation requires the word of God to be available to its people.

Zambia’s population is estimated at 21 million people speaking 73 different local languages, however, only a very small fraction of the population is able to access the Bible in their own mother tongue.
