Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu has reaffirmed government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that persons with disability are included at every level of decision making.
Ms. Zulu says the government is committed to removing barriers by providing opportunities that will enable persons with disabilities to thrive in education, employment and community life.
ZANIS reports that Ms Zulu was speaking in Kanyama Constituency during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration which was held under the theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive, stable future.”
“Inclusion is not charity but a right as it is a moral obligation and a legal commitment under our national and international frameworks, including the United Nations Convention on the Rights with Disabilities, at which Zambia is a proud signatory,” Ms. Zulu emphasized.
During the commemoration, a representative from Africa Call Organization, the organizers of the event, James Phiri emphasized the need for monitoring of spaces in public places suitable for persons with disabilities to have easy access.
Mr. Phiri explained that his organization is committed to ensuring that the rights of persons with disabilities are upheld.
Innocent Chabala, a student at Rockview University is calling on the government to provide and improve the infrastructure in learning institutions so that they can be favourable for persons with disability.
