Government has said that it is investing and strategically building safe drinking water systems by not only increasing funding, but also strengthening capacities to plan, coordinate, and regulate service provision.
Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu says this is a result of the government’s realization that sustainable water management is essential for food security, economic development, and climate resilience.
ZANIS reports that Mr Nzovu was speaking during the launch of the National Rainwater Harvesting Strategy (NRWHS) plan.
Mr Nzovu emphasised that the strategy will provide and guide water scarcity solutions for a resilient future.
He stated that providing greater access to safe drinking water can save many lives in communities.
European Union (EU) Delegation Head of Cooperation, Claudio BaciGalupi, said the project will support the achievement of multiple sustainable development goals and empower communities.
He mentioned that the effective implementation of the NRWHS will have a measurable impact in boosting agriculture, improving health outcomes and contributing to broader environmental sustainability.
