First Quantum Minerals (FQM) Trident in Collaboration with Rock Tech limited has donated 16 wheelchairs valued at over K60, 000 to persons with disabilities within the mine catchment area of Kalumbila District.
This is aimed at strengthening Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).
District Commissioner Brenda Sankisa, who thanked FQM for the donation, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the inclusion agenda and recognition of the leadership of persons with disabilities.
Ms Sankisa notes that this will be done through various strategies and interventions.
ZANIS reports that the DC was speaking during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Kalumbila District.
She said persons with disabilities have been given the opportunity to sit on different Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committees in order to improve inclusivity.
Ms Sankisa further disclosed that the district has 13500 persons with disabilities adding that the government working with stakeholders will continue protecting them.
And Zambia Agency for Zambia Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) Provincial Coordinator Osco Moondoma said that the majority of persons with disabilities are experiencing stigma and discrimination accessing public services, a situation that hinders them from fully participating on an equal basis with others in the communities.
Speaking at the same event, Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Provincial Coordinator Emmanuel Samu said persons with disabilities face many barriers to inclusion in many aspects of society making it difficult for them to realise their potential, not enjoy access to society on an equal basis with others in the areas of employment, education, transportation among others.
Meanwhile, Rock Tech Limited Coordinator Carlos Mwamba said they believe in giving back to the community as part of Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).
