Smart Zambia Institute Assistant Director Paison Chikoye has expressed concern over the huge skills gap in the digital space.
Mr Chikoya has also noted that this makes it difficult for companies to fill critical positions in both government and the private sector.
He has lamented that sectors that rely heavily on technology face reduced productivity due to this gap.
ZANIS reports that Mr Chikoya was speaking during a presentation titled Driving Productivity through Digitalization and Innovation at the National Skills, Productivity and Jobs Summit in Lusaka.
Mr. Chikoye highlighted the growing demand for skills in the Information Technology sector, requiring creative and innovative minds.
He emphasized the importance of digital skills and innovation for job seekers in order to increase the country’s productivity rate.
Mr Chikoya pointed out that these abilities are essential because digitalization and innovation have the ability to drive the country’s economic transformation.
He challenged educational institutions to equip learners with hands-on skills in digital and technology that can be effectively applied in the industry.
