TRUCK WASHING BUSINESS REFORMS SEX WORKERS’ LIFE IN NDOLA

Female truck washer in Ndola District, operating along Kabwe Road, say rather than engaging in prostitution, women are better leading in honest and dignified work such as their vocation.

Ms Martha Zimba, one of the truck washers, says her vocation has enabled her to support her younger sister’s education.

In an interview with ZANIS, Ms Zimba stressed the value of hard work and how it can lead to a more fulfilling and independent life.

“I believe in using our hands for productive work as it gives us dignity and financial independence without relying on exploitation,” Ms Zimba stated.

Her male counterpart,  Kelvin Simfukwe  advised local authorities  in the country to permit truck washers in their respective domains sites where they could be earning a living.

Mr Simfukwe explained that the truck washers have been given a notice by local authorities to stop operating from the area.

He stated that relocating the station would disrupt their operations by limiting access to customers and ultimately affecting their livelihoods.

Truck washing business provides a sustainable means of income for both women and men, offering an alternative to harmful activities such as prostitution.
