Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana says the UPND Government is implementing a number of projects and programmes to improve the livelihoods of Zambians.
ZANIS reports that speaking when he called on Luapula Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Prudence Chinama at the Provincial Administration today, Mr Kawana said the social cash transfer has continued to enhance the livelihoods of vulnerable Zambians especially in rural areas.
“We also have the food for work Programme which our people are benefiting from, this is one of the impactful programs the new dawn is implementing to cushion the effects of the droughts,” he said.
Mr Kawana noted that programmes such as the free education policy should not go unnoticed as many children are accessing school for free without their parents paying for tuition fees.
“These programmes should not go unnoticed, our people need to know what this government is doing,” Mr Kawana said.
Mr Kawana also encouraged civil servants to embrace hard work as they provide a service to the Zambian people.
Meanwhile, Ms Chinama said there is a need for a mindset change of all people to ensure the country is developed.
“All of us should get involved if we are to achieve the desired development. Government is doing a lot of programmes and there is a need for public awareness of all these programmes,” she said.
Ms Chinama stated that working with the media including ZANIS, the Luapula Provincial Administration is highlighting various developmental programs being undertaken by the government in the region.
However, Ms Chinama stated that the media also needs sensitisation on the dangers of misinformation to the public.
“The issue is mindset change. Our people need the right information and it’s the media who play a big role in information dissemination,” Ms Chinama said.
Mr Kawana is on a two-day working visit in Mansa District where he is expected to visit some media houses and Provincial Broadcast Studios.
