Vice President Mutale Nalumango has praised Public Relation Officers, saying that they play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and promoting government policies and programs.
Ms Nalumango says this is the reason the government will soon recruit Chief Public Relations officers in the central government to enhance communication.
ZANIS reports that Ms Nalumango was speaking when she graced the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZPRC) gala dinner, where she emphasised the need to bridge the information gap.
Mrs Nalumango also urged all Public Relations practitioners to be registered professionals and continue attending training sessions that are meant to improve the profession.
Minister of Information and Media and Patron of ZIPRC, Cornelius Mweetwa, highlighted the need for effective communication in promoting national development.
Mr Mweetwa emphasized that good communication is essential for building trust and credibility between the government and the public.
ZPRC President Ireen Chipili also noted that public relations practitioners play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and promoting government policies and programmes.
Meanwhile, the institute recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession where Mrs Nalumango was recognized as an Honorary fellow of ZIPRC for her unwavering support to the profession.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs Nalumango expressed her gratitude to ZPRC for the recognition.
“I am truly humbled by this recognition,” Mrs Nalumango said.”
“As government, we recognize the importance of public relations in promoting national development, we will continue to support the profession and work closely with the ZPRC to promote effective communication and public relations practice in the public sector.” She added.
Other Individuals who were recognized for their contributions to ZPRC included Zanaco Chief Executive Officer, Ms Mukwandi Chibesakunda
Zaffico Chief Executive Officer, Mundia Mundia, Drug Enforcement Commissioner, Nason Banda, Local government Permanent Secretary Maambo Hamaundu among others.
