Police in Southern Province are investigating a matter in which two men of Chief Mungaila’s Chiefdom of Namwala District were reported to have been shot by an unknown person.
One of the victims died on the spot while the other is currently admitted to Namwala District Hospital nursing gunshot wounds on the neck and his stomach.
Southern Province Deputy Commissioner, Moono Namalongo, confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Namwala that the Police received a report on 7th December, 2024 of the shooting incident which was reported to have occurred on 6th December, 2024 at around 23:00 HRS.
He said a concerned member of the public reported the alleged shooting incident to Namwala Police Station via a phone call.
“Two persons were shot namely Kebby Kayayi aged 35 of Kabulamwanda area died on the spot while Norman Mwape aged 25 of Kantengwa area sustained gunshot wounds on his stomach and neck and is currently admitted at Namwala District Hospital,” he indicated.
Mr Namalongo disclosed that the other victim who survived the shooting incident managed to run to Mandili fishing camp and was rushed to Mandili Health Post for medical assistance.
He said owing to the serious injuries sustained, the victim was referred to the district Hospital and by press time his condition was reported to be stable.
Mr Namalongo said the body of the deceased is currently at Namwala District Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
