Four people have died on the spot after a motorbike they were riding on collided with a motor vehicle in Chipili District of Luapula Province.
The accident happened when a Noah Mini Bus registration number AIB 8632 with 16 passengers on board collided head-on with a motorbike carrying the four people.
And four bus passengers sustained injuries and have since been admitted to Mansa General Hospital.
ZANIS reports that Chipili District Administrative Officer, Katele Lengwe, has confirmed the accident which happened around 20:00 hours on Sunday at Tabe area near Chieftainess Mutipula’s palace, along the Chipili-Mansa road.
Mr Lengwe, who rushed to the accident scene in the company of some members of the District Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), stated that among the deceased is a Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) Officer who was part of the team constructing Chieftainess Mutipula’s palace.
Mr Lengwe identified the deceased who are all males as Bright Nkandu, 43, Soyas Nkandu, 52 and two others only identified as Bright, 30 and Gift, 25.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Mansa General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile, Chieftainess Mutipula has expressed sadness over the incident urging motorists and other road users to exercise caution while on the road to prevent Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) and loss of lives.
Meanwhile, one accident victim among the four that are admitted to Mansa General Hospital has had his hand amputated after suffering severe injuries.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Mwala Yuyi, could not be reached for a comment.
