Boxing records of Zambian pugilists will soon be recognized internationally following discussions between Zambian boxing promoters and international boxing record keepers.


Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions Manager Christopher Malunga has disclosed that BoxRec will soon incorporate records and achievements of Zambian boxers on its database.


 BoxRec is an internationally recognized official record keeper of global boxing records. 


ZANIS Sports in Lusaka today reports that  Malunga said in a statement  that he engaged BoxRec owner Marina Shepard on the omission of boxing records and achievements by Zambian boxers.


“I had a wonderful meeting with Marina Shepard , the owner of BoxRec, where we discussed the records of some of our boxers whose fights were not appearing on the platform. The meeting was highly fruitful ” said the country’s long standing boxing promoter.



He assured  the country that records of fights and achievements of Zambian boxers will soon be uploaded and updated on the international data base.


Malunga is in Hamburg, Germany attending the ongoing 62 nd World Boxing Council (WBC) Convention that is running from December 9 to 14, 2024.


Meanwhile, the WBC has declared 2025 as the year for Africa in the global development of boxing.

Malunga said that the global boxing authority has earmarked 2025 to address critical issues affecting boxing on the African continent such as drug abuse and addiction and boxer’s medical welfare, and the establishment of a universal pension fund for boxers and their families.


On the sidelines of the ongoing WBC convention, Malunga will attend a workshop for the African Boxing Union (ABU) aimed at strengthening Africa’s role in the global boxing community.


Malunga pledged to represent the interests of Zambian boxers at the ABU workshop irrespective of their affiliations.
