MWANAKAMPWE COMMENDS ZAMBIA RED CROSS

Government  has commended the Zambia Red Cross Society for supplementing its efforts in the fight against Cholera.

Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe, however, says there is a need for capacity building and training for easy intervention in case of any outbreak.

Dr Mwanakampwe said this in a speech read for him by Provincial Assistant Secretary Mwape Kasanda during the opening of Case-Area Targeted Intervention (CATI) against cholera in order to curb the pandemic at an early stage workshop in Kabwe.

Partnership between government and the ZRCS has in the past been helpful in containing and curbing cholera pandemic in the province through the provision of the much needed health kits to the Ministry of Health.

The CATI initiative is a significant step towards strengthening steps towards fighting cholera outbreaks effectively.

Dr Mwanakampwe observed that while cholera remains a serious global public health threat, small-scale outbreaks must be managed before they escalate to big numbers.

ZRCS Cholera Operations Manager Soul Sinyinza has expressed happiness at the partnership with the government in the fight against Cholera, adding that the CATI project will help to curb the spread of cholera at an early stage.
