OVER 74,000 beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer Programme including over 105,000 beneficiaries under the Drought Emergency Cash Transfer have received their payments in Lusaka Province.
Provincial Minister, Sheal Mulyata, disclosed this when she virtually officially opened the third quarter Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) meeting in Lusaka.
The Minister further disclosed that the provincial administration has completed the distribution of 2,632 metric tonnes of relief white maize to all districts in the province.
ZANIS reports that Ms Mulyata said this is testament of the collective resolve to support those affected by the drought.
She added that the provincial administration has also supported farmers in Climate Smart agriculture.
“The province has been able to provide our farmers with the knowledge, skills, and technologies they need to adapt to the changing climate environment. This has been done through dissemination of climate smart agriculture technologies.
“Further, the province has intensified the dissemination of information on climate change mitigation and its effects on agricultural production and productivity including integrated pest management technologies,” she noted.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the province has made tremendous progress in implementation and payment of beneficiaries under the Cash for Work Programme.
She stated that the programme is a vital initiative that has been instrumental in the provision of financial support to vulnerable members of the community.
“By offering cash incentives in exchange for work, we are not only empowering individuals to take control of their lives but also contributing to the overall economic development of our province,” she said.
