KALUMBILA IN WATER SUPPLY BOOST

MINISTRY of Water Development and Sanitation Permanent Secretary Romas Kamanga has thanked Barrick Lumwana and First Quantum Minerals Trident (FQM) for complementing government’s efforts to improve water supply in Kalumbila District of North-Western Province.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kamanga said this during a familiarisation tour of Kalumbila Water Treatment Plant and Shikezhi Dam in Lumwana.

The Permanent Secretary noted that Lumwana Mining Company has plans to expand the water treatment plant in Manyama, adding that the construction of Shikezhi Dam is also an important reserve to provide water supply in the area.

Kalumbila Town Development Corporation Manager, Michael Kabungo, disclosed that the water plant is designed to supply water at a 10 thousand housing unit of which at the moment about 2,250 units have been completed with 85 percent capacity of water supply.

Meanwhile, Barrick Lumwana Environment Manager, Paul Mashikini, noted that the plant was purposely built to provide a huge water body in the growing town of Manyama and the volume is enough to cutter for the area.
