PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has wished Zambia National Women’s Football team Captain Barbra Banda luck at tonight’s Confederation for African Football (CAF) Women’s Player of the Year award to be held in Marrakech, Morocco.
President Hichilema has also advised Banda to remain focused, even in the face of unfair criticism from the public.
He was speaking at State House this afternoon during a video call with Banda, referee Diana Chikotesha and Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga who are currently in Morocco for this evening’s award show.
The Head of State praised the Copper Queen skipper for her efforts that led to her being shortlisted for the prestigious award and wished her well.
The President was optimistic about Banda’s chances of scooping the award but told her that he is still proud of her achievements regardless of the outcome.
Hichilema also advised the Orlando Pride forward not to pay attention to negativity from any section of the public but that she must continue to work hard.
The Head of State also congratulated Chikotesha for being nominated for the Assistant Referee of the Year award by CAF saying she has done a good job.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said Zambia is now reaping benefits in women football as is evident from different milestones achieved.
Meanwhile, Banda and Chikotesha both thanked the President for expressing his best wishes towards their endeavors.
Banda is among three players shortlisted for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award alongside Nigerian goalkeeper Chidozie Nnadozie and Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy.
