CHEMBE District Commissioner Christopher Mwansa has directed Heads of Government Departments (HoDs) in the district to intensify monitoring of the implementation of government programmes and activities under their charge.
Mr Mwansa notes that effective and regular monitoring of programmes and projects will ensure their implementation is done in line with the aspirations of the government and the Eighth National Development Plan and Vision 2030.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mwansa said this in a speech read on his behalf by Chembe Town Council Secretary, Julius Katuka, during the fourth quarter District Development and Coordinating Committee (DDCC) meeting.
The District Commissioner stated that monitoring is also crucial to ensure government projects and programmes are being delivered according to agreed contractual obligations and for them to deliver desired impact on beneficiaries.
Mr Mwansa stated that the government remains resolute in ensuring that developmental programmes are effectively executed as they are aimed at alleviating people’s hardships in various communities in the district.
“I wish to implore government HODs and institutions to effectively and efficiently implement government programmes and regularly conduct monitoring activities to ensure that programme implementation is done in line with aspirations of the Eighth National Development Plan and Vision 2030,” Mr Mwansa stated.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwansa has advised HODs to frequently collaborate with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in their execution of government activities to enhance visibility of developmental projects and programmes being implemented in the district.
He expressed concern that while the government is undertaking various developmental activities across sectors in the district, not so much is highlighted owing to the non-involvement of ZANIS which is mandated to perform the task.
“Therefore, you are being directed to work with ZANIS to document success stories of change brought about as a result of various government interventions in all sectors of the economy,” Mr Mwansa advised.
