THREE women who lost their lives in a Road Traffic Accident in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province have been put to rest.
Florence Chileshe 46, Brenda Nachilima 44 and Silvia Mumbi 36 tragically lost their lives in a (RTA) on Saturday 14th December 2024 in Chinsali along the Great North Road when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a truck whose driver misjudged the clearance distance.
At a Mass held yesterday in honor of the 3 departed women held at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Nambuluma area, Mpika Diocese Vicar General Vito Milandile said that the death of the 3 women has left a big gap in the Church.
Fr Milandile described the 3 deceased women as dedicated members of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province.
And Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary (DPS) Mathews Chilekwa says the demise of the remarkable Catholic Women’s League members will leave a void in the community.
ZANIS reports that Rev Chilekwa made these remarks when he addressed mourners at Piyala Grave yard in Chinsali yesterday.
The DPS noted that the 3 deceased mothers who have left children behind embodied the values of compassion, kindness and selflessness.
“The 3 women leaders will continue to inspire us through their legacy,” He said.
Rev Chilekwa added that the Government recognises the significant contribution the departed women have made in the society through their tireless efforts to promote justice, equality and peace.
Meanwhile, Chinsali Mayor Lucy Mukuka who also addressed mourners said that there is need for Government through the Permanent Secretary’s office to engage the contractor working on the Chinsali-Nakonde Road to ensure that road humps are put up at the turn-off and Mulakupikwa area in order to reduce accident occurrences along the said stretch.
Ms Mukuka said in a space of 17 days more than 10 accidents have occurred at Mulakupikwa area, hence urgent need to put up accident preventive measures.
And in response to the Mayor`s concern, Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary said road works on the Chinsali-Nakonde road are still ongoing and that road humps will be put up in the long run to avoid vehicles over speeding in populated areas along the Great North Road.
The burial of the 3 accident victims was attended by hundreds of people and the families paid tribute to their departed loved ones.
