CHIEF Chikanta of Kalomo District in Southern Province has urged farmers in his region to cultivate drought-resistant crops.
This is in response to the unpredictable rainfall patterns of the 2024/2025 farming season.
The rainfall pattern for the 2024/2025 season started late. Despite this, farmers in his chiefdom prepared their land on time, but the rainfall pattern has not been very conducive so far.
The traditional leader said this in an interview with ZANIS Lusaka during the Musika stakeholders’ project impact evaluation meeting held at the Intercontinental Hotel on 18th December 2024.
He stated that many people are still planting, and he hopes that the crops being planted will not be destroyed.
Meanwhile, a farmer from Lufwanyama District, Muhammad Ntosha, said the current weather pattern has negatively affected most farmers in the country.
Mr. Ntosha credited Musika, a Zambian non-profit company, for supporting his farming endeavors through initiatives that promote systemic change in the country’s agricultural markets.
He further thanked the government for improving infrastructure in Lufwanyama District, stating that these developments are advantageous for farmers, as they ensure easy transportation.
