THE Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) has urged teachers to develop innovative teaching methods to enhance the quality of education among learners.
TCZ Registrar Ebby Mubanga has observed that the free education policy saw over 2.3 million students re-integrated back to school, demanding for more teachers in order to bridge the teacher-to-pupil ratio.
In an Interview with ZANIS, Dr Mubanga stated that the free education policy ensured that children who were previously out of school gained access to education which is currently more important for Zambia’s education system.
He noted that government has employed teachers in order to mitigate the quality of education but that it needed additional efforts such as technology in order to meet the global education demands.
Dr Mubanga further encouraged teachers to view digitalization in the education sector as an opportunity to enhance the quality of education, not only for the learners but the educators too.
“Teachers must be well-informed about utilizing the technological advancements being developed in the sector to improve efficiency,” he said.
Meanwhile, National Association for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) Director Aaron Chansa welcomed the Digital Platform saying the Enhanced Performance Tracking System (ePTS) is expected to provide a bridge in the education sector where assessing overall learning outcomes has been challenging.
“This is a good move. We now request the Ministry of Education to provide training for those who will be managing this technology to ensure accurate data entry,” Mr Chansa stated.
He further urged the government to develop an implementation strategy to monitor and evaluate the performance of the programme at regular intervals.
