GOVERNMENT has officially handed over a staff house at Mwange School in Zambezi District, built at a cost of over K800,000 using the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Zambezi West Constituency Member of Parliament, Vumango Musumali, emphasised that the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing teachers’ welfare.
Mr Musumali further assured the community that the government will continue to construct more schools and housing units, highlighting the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, who is dedicated to bringing development closer to the people.
“In previous governments it was rare to see projects like this in rural areas. Most developments were concentrated in urban centers. However, I assure you that this time, development is being equitably shared across the country, reaching even remote areas like ours,” Mr Musumali stated.
He further urged community members to support the government in its ongoing development efforts.
Speaking on behalf of Zambezi District Education Board Secretary, Wellington Mwengu, Education Standard Officer, Godfrey Kalyati, expressed gratitude to the government for its support in improving educational infrastructure.
Mr Mwengu further urged the government to prioritise the construction of additional housing to help retain all teachers at the school.
He noted that the current lack of accommodation prevents some teachers from being present at the school.
“We appreciate the government for this investment in infrastructure. However, we need more houses to retain additional teachers,” Mr Mwangu appealed.
Meanwhile, Zambezi Town Council Civil Engineer, Isaac Kambole, praised the contractor, Delta Camp Limited, for their excellent workmanship despite challenges posed by poor road conditions.
He urged other contractors to adhere strictly to the terms and conditions of their contracts, without compromising on quality.
