Government has advised Mansa Medical Hub’s management to be proactive in the acquisition of drugs from Zambia medicine and medical supplies Agency ( ZAMMSA).
Health Minister Elijah Muchima says the government has made sure that ZAMMSA is fully stocked with drugs so that there are no shortages of the commodity in health facilities.
Speaking when he toured the Mansa Medical Hub, Dr. Muchima maintained that the country is well stocked with drugs and medical supplies which ZAMMSA is expecting to deliver throughout the country until the last mile distribution.
He indicated that medical hubs across the country should ensure that they send their drug requests promptly to ZAMMSA, rather than waiting until they have run out of medicine.
” These hubs should always have medicine to supply to health facilities across the province as ZAMMSA has enough medicine which is just waiting to be distributed,” he said.
The Health Minister further disclosed that his ministry has even procured new vehicles to be used for distributing medicine in provinces.
Dr. Muchima noted that delays in distributing medicine to health facilities sometimes happens due to delays by medical hubs to request for medicine on time.
” There is no excuse why hubs should not be fully stocked with medicine when ZAMMSA in Lusaka is fully stocked,” he said..
Dr. Muchima says that he expects medical hubs to be above 90 percent in terms of availability of essential medicine.
And Mansa Medical Hub Inventory Officer Musonda Sifukwe says the hub is up to date in terms of distribution of medicine in the Province.
Mr. Sifukwe disclosed that the newly procured land cruisers have made their work easy as they are able to distribute drugs on time across all health facilities which the hub is catering including some districts in Northern province.
” As we speak now, we are just loading our vehicles with medicine to take to Chifunabuli district and the situation has been like this even for other districts,” he said..
Currently, the hub is sitting at 80 percent in terms of availability of essential medicine.
