DEC RECOVERS MILLIONS TO GOVERNMENT TREASURY

Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has remitted to the government treasury, a sum of over $30 million United States dollars and over K57 million that has been obtained from forfeitures this year.

Speaking during an annual update meeting, DEC Director General, Nason Banda says the Commission has also seized 274 motor vehicles out of which 35 have been forfeited to the State while 129 are still under investigation.

Mr Banda also said that the Drug Enforcement Commission is working with international drug control agencies and intelligence networks in order to strengthen intelligence sharing and investigations.

He added that the Commission has continued to confront threats and challenges posed by illicit drug trafficking and money laundering activities that have continued to negatively impact the safety, health, and economic stability of the country.

“A total of 4,421 reports were received from the general public. Out of these, investigations were commenced in 3,893 cases and concluded in 3,426 Cases. This represents 88% case conclusion levels,” said Mr Banda.

Mr Banda added that DEC is collaborating with other public and private sector service providers to refocus efforts towards providing counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation services for individuals struggling with drug dependence in communities.

He expressed gratitude towards the treasury for the 100% disbursement of funds that will work towards the 2024 Annual Budget and also bring about new stations as well as recruitment of officers.
