MOTORBIKE ACCIDENTS IN MANSA WORRY GOVERNMENT

Mansa General Hospital Medical Superintendent Markfold Chipili has bemoaned the high numbers of motorbike accidents being recorded at the hospital.

Dr Chipili points out that the hospital has been receiving motorbike accident victims almost on a daily basis.

In an interview with ZANIS, Dr Chipili observes that the institution is spending a lot of resources to attend to motor bike accident victims.

The Medical Superintendent explains that more resources are now being channeled towards accident victims who in some cases are referred to Lusaka or Ndola for specialised treatment.

“These resources we are spending can be used to save lives of patients who are critically ill if only bikers can be sensitised on road safety,” he says.

Dr Chipili notes that stakeholders such as the police and the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) need to join the effort and help address the problem.

He says the province cannot afford to continue losing lives of people through preventable road accidents.

And Mansa Central Member of Parliament Chitalu Chilufya says motorbike accidents are among the major causes of deaths in the district.

Dr Chilufya discloses that a lot of lives have been lost from the time motorbikes came on board and that there is need to quickly address the problem.

“We cannot continue losing lives in our district just because some bikers have decided not to do the right thing on the road,” he says.

The Mansa Central Member of Parliament now wants the government to find ways of enforcing road safety measures when it comes to bikers so that lives of people can be protected.

Dr Chilufya observes that the country already has enough safety rules, and it is just a matter of reinforcing them.
