Government has announced plans to upgrade Maina Soko Military Hospital to Level 4.
Minister of Defence, Ambrose Lufuma said this is in order to improve healthcare infrastructure, service delivery and support its participation in the United Nations operations.
Speaking when he made a donation of 24 hampers to Christmas babies at Maina Soko Military Hospital today, Mr Lifuma stated that the upgrade will enable the hospital to provide more specialized medical services and improve its capacity to handle complex cases.
ZANIS reports that Mr Lufuma also noted that Christmas is the time to show love and give hope to those in hospital.
“As we celebrate the festive season, this act of kindness serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, generosity, and community spirit among ourselves,” Mr Lifuma said.
“I am also glad to hear that the hospital has serviced over 80, 000 patients this year, which only shows the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the well-being of the citizens,” he said.
Mr Lifuma called on the public to have health insurance policies for easy accessibility of services at the hospital.
And Maina Soko Commandant Brigadier General, Levy Muchemwa, commended the Government for the recruitment of health volunteers which has helped in enhancing the hospital’s capabilities.
Dr Muchemwa also highlighted the challenges the hospital is facing, among them are budget limitations and inadequate specialized manpower which leads them to outsourcing.
