The Movement for Democratic Congress has advised former President Edgar Lungu to support Republican President Hakainde Hichilema.
MDC’s Chirundu District Chairperson Humphrey Kawayawaya says Mr Lungu as the only surviving former Republican President, needs to quickly retire from politics following the settlement of eligibility case.
Mr. Kawayawaya says the former President should instead consider working closely with his successor, Mr Hichilema in serving Zambians.
The Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) reports that Mr Kawayawaya further observed that Mr Lungu can only attain the status of a “Statesman” by working with the current government in fostering peace and national unity.
The MDC Chirundu District Chairperson said the former Head of State can also use his “free” time wisely by mentoring young Zambians on how to overcome personal setbacks and become good citizens.
The Movement for Democratic Congress (MDC) Chirundu District Chairperson said the year 2025 will need collective effort and wisdom from all Zambians of goodwill in fostering unity of purpose in addressing some of societal challenges.
On 10th December,2024, the Constitutional Court settled the eligibility case of former president Edgar Lungu from participating in future presidential elections after he served constitutional two terms limit.
Mr Lungu is currently heading one of the three factions of the PF, with Mafinga Member of Parliament, Robert Chabinga heading the other while his Matero counterpart, Miles Sampa leading the third one.
