The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says all the national teams that have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations tournaments will have an international camp where they will play friendlies next year as part of their preparations.
FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala stated that this will be done with the help of government through the Ministry of Sports, of Youth, Sport and Arts.
Mungala emphasized that the association is also ready to support the teams’ preparations.
In an interview with ZANIS, Mungala also disclosed that the association will host the Four Nations Tournament for the Zambia National Women’s Team in March to assess the team’s readiness before the WAFCON Tournament in Morocco.
“We will be making an announcement regarding which specific teams will participate in the Four Nations Tournament that we will host. We also hope to camp the team in Morocco or a location close to Morocco,” he said.
Mungala disclosed that the Copper Queens will either be camped in Morocco or neighboring countries before the tournament, during which the team will play friendly matches.
Mungala added that the Senior Men’s National Team will be accorded international friendlies during the FIFA window ahead of the 2025 Morocco AFCON in December.
He stated that the specific opponents for the Senior Team’s friendlies will be announced once the AFCON draws have been conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Mungala further mentioned that the CHAN National Team, which comprises locally-based players, will also play friendly matches and undergo an international camp.
Meanwhile, soccer analyst Puncherello Chama said that camping the various national teams and organizing friendly matches is a good initiative, as it will allow the players to get together.
And Soccer analyst, Joshua Kutela Machona, commended FAZ for the preparatory efforts, stating that the players will gain exposure, leading to better performances.
